What are heavy metals? Where do they occur?
Heavy metals form a group within metals whose characteristics are not uniformly defined – more correctly, one should speak of toxic metals, but for simplicity, the common term heavy metals is used here.
Some metals are toxic even in small amounts, while others – the so-called essential trace elements such as iron, copper, and zinc – are even necessary for the body; here, only the dose determines the toxicity. When we speak of heavy metal contamination, we mean a toxic type or amount of metals that, when absorbed into the organism, can lead to various damages.

The most important or common metals in the context of detoxification and regulation therapy are:

Heavy metals2 are among the most toxic substances in our environment and pose a major problem for humans because they can significantly damage our organism even in vanishingly small amounts.
In general, heavy metal contamination can lead to fundamental problems such as:

- Inflammation throughout the body
- Degenerative aging processes

Why do heavy metals harm health so much?
The toxicity of heavy metals in the human body is based on their ability to interact with biomolecules: they displace essential trace elements from their binding sites in enzymes, thereby damaging their molecular structure, so that the enzymes' often vital functions are inhibited or even paralyzed.
In this way, heavy metals penetrate microscopically small, elementary structures of our body and damage them sustainably or often permanently.
